Pedigree Dog Breeds

When choosing a dog it is important to research the breed of dog that will best suit your lifestyle and interests.  Making the right choice is important for you and the dog you choose.

There are 7 groups of pedigree dog breeds

  • Hound Group - Great for scent work and enjoy any kind of hunting or scent activities.  Most of these breeds need a substantial amount of exercise.
  • Gundog Group - Make great family pets and need plenty of exercise and attention.  As the name suggests they are popular gundogs and enjoy retrieving.
  • Terrier Group - Full of fun, but can have a fiery temperament.
  • Utility Group - Some of the most established breeds fall into this group and the breeds are quite diverse in character.
  • Working Group - There are a number of guarding breeds in this group as well as search and rescue dogs.  The heroes of the dog world!
  • Pastoral Group - All the herding breeds.
  • Toy Group - These are intelligent dogs that require more mental stimulation than physical.  Providing they are not spoilt by their owners they are friendly breeds.

Once you have decided what breed of dog you would like, the next step is to research dog ownership and what it entails.
